Advocacy is an expert, quality, streamlined advocacy service, operating as an alternative to the external Bar and traditional chambers - saving you money and making communication easier.

How we can help

Operating much like an in-house set of chambers, with a dedicated clerking team, DWF’s barristers and advocates understand that getting the best results from advocacy relies on specialist understanding and up-to-the-minute experience. That's why Advocacy is separated into sub teams, drawing together experts in personal and catastrophic injury, occupational health and disease, employment, commercial including international arbitration, commercial landlord and tenant and real property, professional indemnity and costs applications and assessments.

Advocacy accepts instruction directly, as well as through DWF Law LLP.  Whether you need someone to conduct telephone or in-person court hearings, in all courts across England and Wales, or support with drafting, our commitment to providing the very highest quality legal expertise, at a reasonable cost, sets us apart from the other chambers.

We offer expertise across all types of hearings:

  • Multi Track Trials
  • Fast Track Trials
  • Small Claim Hearings
  • CCMCs
  • CMCs
  • Interim Application Hearings including Show Cause Hearings and Relief from Sanctions Applications
  • Costs Applications and Detailed Assessments
  • Disposal/Stage 3 Hearing and Infant Approvals
  • Appeal hearings
  • CRU Appeals
  • Tribunals

Our expertise

Catastrophic Personal Injury and Occupational Health

Catastrophic Personal Injury and Occupational Health

Working alongside DWF’s 1000-strong, award-winning insurance team our Cat PI and Occupational Health advocates bring market-leading insight, deep legal expertise and a seamless client service.

From the highest value catastrophic personal injury and occupational health claims through to fast-track claims - we stand out for our close working relationships with instructing solicitors and insurer clients alike.

Our advocates are skilled in drawing in sector-specific understanding of claims ranging from RTA and motor claims, through to NIHL and disease claims, product liability, marine & trade, mining industries & power, energy, police and prison claims. We have particular expertise in handling interlocutory matters, fraudulent claims and matters relating to costs and case management.

We are committed to limiting claimant costs and achieving savings.

Our innovative in-house structure supports this in a way traditional chambers can’t. By working alongside many solicitors and claims specialists, as well as Medical and Rehabilitation managers, iForensic (our forensic accountancy service) and in-house collision investigation experts, we’re able to develop a better cultural understanding of the case, as well as improving its day-to-day management.

Professional Indemnity

Professional Indemnity

Our professional indemnity advocates act on claims against a wide range of professionals, most particularly accountants, surveyors, medical and legal professionals, and insurance brokers.

Whether called to defend or to settle a professional indemnity claim, Advocacy’s unique in-house structure means we have a greater understanding of the whole process, leading to better, quicker, more effective solutions.

From the very earliest pre-action stages through to final hearings, we work hand-in-hand with clients, advising on the whole process. We can provide assistance at all stages of a claim, whether delivering informal or formal written advice, drafting pleadings and applications, handling questions to experts, advising on costs budgeting and case management conferences, as well as attending conferences and trials in person. We are particularly well known for our work on interlocutory matters, as well as those relating to disclosure and the Civil Procedure Rules.

We are known for our deep and broad understanding of the best and most persuasive ways to present fraud cases, so as to secure the strongest, most commercially robust, and practical, results.

Unlike traditional chambers our ‘in-house’ nature means we are able to draw on deep and broad sector understanding, from across DWF, in particular in the education and public sectors.  Our advocates sit alongside specialist solicitors (as well as taking external instruction), providing a seamless client experience. This allows us to deliver the very best representation at rates competitive with, and often much lower than, the external Bar.

Our employment law advocates represent both employers and employees at all levels of tribunal and Court across England, Wales and Scotland on a wide range of employment claims.

With a particular specialism in advising on discrimination claims unfair/wrongful dismissal, TUPE, misconduct, and regulatory matters. In addition to advising on and leading internal disciplinary proceedings, our advocates understand the sensitive and complex elements within every employment law case.

From advising and acting on costs management hearings and appeals, through to detailed assessments (including oral hearings following provisional assessment) and applications (including those for security for costs and costs penalties following non-compliance with pre-action protocols), our advocates are known for being technically-minded, tenacious negotiators, with a clear understanding of the bigger picture for costs litigation.

We stand out for our unique and innovative structure. Although our advocates receive instruction directly through external law firms and DWF Law LLP, the depth of knowledge that comes from working alongside an award-winning, full-practice legal team means we are perfectly placed to understand operational matters, as well as to assess costs accurately, from a position of experience.
