Our professional indemnity advocates act on claims against a wide range of professionals, most particularly accountants, surveyors, medical and legal professionals, and insurance brokers.

Whether called to defend or to settle a professional indemnity claim, DWF Advocacy’s unique in-house structure means we have a greater understanding of the whole process, leading to better, quicker, more effective solutions.

From the very earliest pre-action stages through to final hearings, we work hand-in-hand with clients, advising on the whole process. We can provide assistance at all stages of a claim, whether delivering informal or formal written advice, drafting pleadings and applications, handling questions to experts, advising on costs budgeting and case management conferences, as well as attending conferences and trials in person. We are particularly well known for our work on interlocutory matters, as well as those relating to disclosure and the Civil Procedure Rules.

Our specialist inquest advocates advise and represent interested parties in a range of inquest hearings in the Coroner's Court, including pre-inquest reviews, interlocutory hearings, Article 2 and non-Article 2 inquests.

Our employment law advocates represent both employers and employees at all levels of tribunal and Court across England, Wales and Scotland on a wide range of employment claims.

With a particular specialism in advising on discrimination claims unfair/wrongful dismissal, TUPE, misconduct, and regulatory matters. In addition to advising on and leading internal disciplinary proceedings, our advocates understand the sensitive and complex elements within every employment law case.

Unlike traditional chambers our ‘in-house’ nature means we are able to draw on deep and broad sector understanding, from across DWF, in particular in the education and public sectors. Our advocates sit alongside specialist solicitors (as well as taking external instruction), providing a seamless client experience. Our costs specialists work alongside DWF’s 1000-strong, award-winning insurance team, as well as advising on commercial litigation and arbitration costs, in the County Courts, District Registries and SCCO.

From advising and acting on costs management hearings and appeals, through to detailed assessments (including oral hearings following provisional assessment) and applications (including those for security for costs and costs penalties following non-compliance with pre-action protocols), our advocates are known for being technically-minded, tenacious negotiators, with a clear understanding of the bigger picture for costs litigation.

With a truly international practice, our commercial/'commercial' chancery disputes specialists are instructed in matters before all levels of court, both in England & Wales and further afield. With a particular specialism in handling disputes in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Pakistan, Mauritius and Dubai, members of our expert advocacy team have been instructed in high value commercial disputes (c.$200 million - $1.7 billion USD) in the fields of shareholder agreements, energy, aviation and cargo transportation, tax as well as technology, intellectual property and real estate.

Our 'traditional' chancery disputes specialists are instructed in a variety of matters, before all courts of England & Wales, in trusts and restitution.

We have a noted expertise in handling all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, in particular international arbitrations. We have been instructed in commercial, investment treaty, maritime and tax arbitrations, under a variety of arbitral rules.

Our specialists draw on deep and broad sector expertise, as well as experience of complicated matters of contract law including jurisdiction, conflict of laws, res judicata and limitation, and corporate advice, to deliver the most commercially-relevant solutions.
