DWF hosts Credit Hire Conferences

06 July 2023

The DWF Credit Hire and Fraud team recently ran two successful conferences in London and Manchester covering the escalation of claims inflation in bent metal claims and other concerns facing the industry.

The events were led by Gavin Perry, Partner and National Head of Credit Hire and Claire Barnes, Senior Associate and National Head of Credit Hire Fraud.

Post personal injury reforms and the implementation of the OIC, there has been a shift towards fraud in vehicle damage claims and suspected fraudulent credit hire claims. This continues to rise in light of the cost of living crisis but identification is a challenge for insurers. As vehicle damage fraud is an emerging trend which continues to gain momentum, it is important to raise industry awareness on the tactics that can be used to avoid payment of these claims especially in light of the current cost of living crisis and the ever increasing interest rates.

Lorraine Carolan, Global Head of Fraud and Credit Hire said: "DWF's Bent metal and credit hire conferences underpins the importance of these type of claims for our insurance clients, especially when looking at how claims inflation is driving behaviours as well as regulatory reforms. Fantastic to see our insurance clients come together to collaborate on an industry basis and discuss solutions and how to tackle these pressing issues."

The topics, covered by an excellent selection of both internal and external speakers, gave attendees a market overview, explored issues driving claims inflation, credit hire developments, vehicle damage and credit hire fraud including organised fraud. In addition, we looked at the implications of fixed recoverable costs in the bent metal arena.

The conferences were well received by clients and it was great to have the opportunity to network and share views across the industry.

The DWF team works collaboratively across departments to scan the market and identify trends and behaviours in respect of vehicle related claims with the sole aim of supporting clients to disrupt these behaviours.

Please contact us if you would like to hear more about how we can help successfully navigate claims, legal and regulatory concerns in this area.
