Peter is a Senior Associate in DWF's Insurance team and is based in Newcastle, Australia.

Experience


Peter is an insurance law expert with experience in both New Zealand and Australia. His practice includes public liability, professional indemnity, property damage and professional disciplinary matters.  He also regularly advises insurers on policy coverage issues, including issues of dual insurance and contractual indemnity.

Peter has a broad legal skillset and employs a practical and pragmatic approach toward his matters.

Along with regularly acting in the District Court and Supreme Court of NSW in matters regarding compensation, Peter also has significant experience defending claims in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW, and in acting for allied health practitioners in response to notifications and complaints conducted by regulatory bodies.

Recent Cases


  • Acting for a head contractor in multi-party Supreme Court of NSW proceedings in relation to significant injuries suffered by a subcontractor after a fall from height. This matter included complex coverage related issues arising from a subcontractor extension in the policy, and issues of dual insurance. 
  • Acting for a sole-trader carpenter in Supreme Court of NSW proceedings involving post-concussion syndrome and associated complex quantum issues, including operation of the economic loss cap.
  • Acting for an electronics importer in District Court of NSW proceedings in relation to personal injury suffered by a customer of a defective electronic product. 
  • Acting for dog owners in District Court of NSW proceedings relating to an attack in public causing significant injuries. 
  • Acting for a large plumbing business in defence of a claim for significant water damage to a large apartment complex, following the failure of tempering valves incorporated into a new hot water system. 
  • Acting for a head contractor in District Court of NSW proceedings following a subcontractor falling from scaffolding. The matter included the investigation and leveraging of significant credibility issues to reach favourable settlement.
  • Acting for a pharmacist defending misconduct proceedings brought by the Health Care Complaints Commission in the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal in relation to alleged inappropriate supply of high strength drugs of addiction. 
  • Acting for an employer in Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW proceedings brought by a former employee who allegedly developed mesothelioma as a result of historic asbestos exposure.
