Julie Simms

Partner, Liverpool

Julie trained and qualified in Liverpool and has over ten years' experience covering a full range of real estate work. She won North West Insider 2014 Young Lawyer of the Year Award.

She specialises in property development for both the public and private sector together with management of industrial property portfolios for property funds.

Julie is a partner in DWF's Liverpool Real Estate team. Her speciality includes negotiating development agreements, forward funding agreements, grant funding agreements, exclusivity agreements, site assembly or disposal and lettings, advising both public and private sector clients. She acts for developers, landlords and property companies in the acquisition or disposal of sites, letting and disposal of a variety of commercial, industrial and mixed-use schemes. Her expertise includes advising on grant funding agreements including ERDF agreements and associated documentation.

She has taken the lead role in two flagship complex mixed-use developments in the North West, containing offices, retail, leisure, supermarket, hotels, cinema, public realm and residential apartments and led a major forward funding deal worth £47m for the construction of 140,000sq.ft of commercial space in the North West.

She also supports our technology, media and telecoms sector groups and advise public and private sector clients in relation to data centre leases.

Julie's team delivers an estate management function for an industrial fund's investment portfolio worth £625m. The team works closely with the fund's asset managers to ensure an understanding of the strategy and proposed exit routes for the fund which in turn enables the team to advise practically and commercially on the day-to-day transactions.The team includes colleagues from Real Estate Litigation and as such the client is provided with all round advice and a full analysis of the risks associated with a transaction.

Julie also deals with the acquisitions and disposals for the fund ensuring compliance with the fund's requirements, approval processes and any bank requirements.

She is a member of DWF's Diversity Steering Group.

Julie has worked closely with the public sector body, Liverpool Vision, in their delivery of the International Festival for Business (IFB 2014) holding the role of Chair of the IFB Professional and Financial Services Committee.

Julie has been recognised in the legal section of the Planner's Women of Influence 2018 list.
