Experience

Andrew regularly appears before a range of Courts and tribunals to represent litigants at hearings, he is experienced at dealing with unopposed applications through to highly contested and sensitive cases with multiple issues and extensive documentary evidence. Andrew has a particular interest in inquest and coronial law work, and has represented interested parties in many inquests ranging from short hearings up to and including multi day inquests concerning copious documentation and requiring detailed submissions.

Andrew has experience of representing parties in casualty claims, professional negligence cases and commercial litigation. He often provides advice on strategic matters before proceedings are issued. Andrew has an interest in procedural rules and new case law and has given training seminars on various procedural issues as well as having published articles in numerous journals.

Andrew also has experience in alternative dispute resolution including JSM's, formal Mediations and Arbitration. He has appeared in many trials and has experience of appearing in and advising on appellate matters as well. Andrew routinely handles costs issues following the conclusion of a case and advises on costs budgeting to provide clarity as to likely insurance outlay, as well as advising on the possibility of CRU recovery options following conclusion of a casualty claim. Andrew has published a book in relation to CRU work, this was published by Law Brief Publishing Ltd in July 2020.

Away from work Andrew can be found skydiving, playing chess or attending the opera.

Recent Cases

  • Represented the insurers of a coach company in defending a multi-million pound claim brought by a coachload of schoolchildren involved in an RTA abroad.
  • Acted for the applicant in seeking to judicially review the decision of an Assistant Coroner where, at an inquest, the employer was found to have exposed the deceased to chemicals which caused his death. Led by leading counsel.
  • Acted for the insurers of a driver in relation to a road traffic collision. The case was a rare instance where the Coroner had to consider a conclusion of unlawful killing because of the standard of driving of one of the vehicles involved in the collision.
  • Represented the out of hours GP in relation to the death of a patient from a rare pancreatic illness. The Coroner took extensive medical evidence over multiple days from experts of ever increasing specialty.
