Exhibiting at the All Energy and Dcarbonise Conference 2022

10 June 2022

As a trainee, with an interest in energy, the All-Energy and Dcarbonise Conference presented the perfect environment for me to grow my network as well as my understanding of the opportunities available in this field. The All-Energy and Dcarbonise Conference was held at the SEC, in Glasgow, over the 11th and 12th May, supported by 232 exhibitors, of which DWF was one.

During the event, I made connections with a range of people out with the legal sector and was interested to understand their roles and how companies' visions are changing in line with net zero targets and rising investor interests in ESG.

I managed to try my hand at a buzz wire game. Unfortunately, I did not manage to complete the buzz wire without sounding the alarm, or I could have been in with the chance of winning a helicopter ride for two! I also returned home from the event with a portable charger and solar socks (socks with suns on them)!

My experience before joining DWF was as an in-house legal assistant in an oil and gas service company which provided the foundation of my interest in this area. The event demonstrated there is a rising interest and passion in the sector, and how energy is diversifying far beyond the traditional oil and gas. It is clear that this is an expanding sector offering wide-ranging career opportunities to someone at the start of their professional journey.

This event was the first business development event that I have attended as a trainee, and my first large scale event since covid. People were excited to connect in person again, which made for an exciting atmosphere. A couple of interesting facts that I picked up during the event were that the first electric car was built in 1835 in Aberdeen, and an electric car can be filled up with as little as £12 – much cheaper than the rising fuel prices!

DWF's expanding energy team provides me, and other trainees, with exciting opportunities to get involved in a vast array of work. DWF's energy team are able to draw upon a wide spectrum of complementary areas of expertise. In essence, we boast a full services offering from cradle to grave on any energy project; be it advising on the feasibility of any project, the commercials of the deal, the property acquisition and development contracts to the construction of the actual asset.  It was great to see how all of these threads tied together at the Conference; and amazing to see the breadth of expertise across the teams.  This ability to provide a full commercial service enabled us to have diverse conversations with organisations ranging from established companies requesting advice on construction, financing and regulations to SMEs seeking troubleshooting advice.

I am looking forward to exploring the opportunities available in this area and seeing how this sector develops in the future.
