Share fraud and scams

Share fraud and scams

Shareholders should be wary of any unsolicited advice, offers to buy shares at a discount, or offers of free reports about the Company. These are typically from overseas 'brokers' who target UK or US shareholders, offering to sell them what often turns out to be worthless or high-risk shares. These operations are commonly known as boiler rooms, and the brokers can be very persistent and extremely persuasive.

Shareholders are advised to deal with financial service firms that are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). You can check if a firm is authorised by FCA by visiting NewRegister (fca.org.uk). If you deal with an unauthorised firm, you will not be eligible to receive payment under the Financial Services Compensations Scheme if anything goes wrong. For more detailed information on how you can protect yourself from an investment scam, or to report a scam, go to Report a scam to us | FCA or call 0800 111 6768.
