Nicole van Leenen

Data Protection & Privacy Specialist, Leeds

Nicole is a data protection specialist and advises a broad range of clients on data protection matters.

Experience

Nicole specialises in European and UK data protection law and has experience in advising clients in different sectors, including technology, retail, insurance and financial services.

Nicole has over 7 years of legal professional experience, internationally and in the UK, and has a keen interest for data protection. Her recent experience includes advising on personal data breaches and data subject rights requests, liaising with regulators and handling regulatory investigations.  Nicole also advises on data protection project management (including contract remediation projects, GDPR compliance health checks and data protection impact assessments), provides client training, and advises on cross border processing and international transfer of personal data. She has extensive experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts for organisations with complex data flows and she regularly supports clients with data governance, for example by developing compliant data protection policies and related documentation.

Nicole enjoys working together with clients and has also worked as an in-house legal counsel. She is therefore able to combine legal experience and commercial understanding to provide practical advice and solutions for clients.

Nicole is a certified information privacy professional (CIPP/E and CIPM) and a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. She holds a Dutch law degree (LL.B and LL.M) and speaks Dutch and English.
