Experience
Richard qualified as a Solicitor in April 2016 specialising in contentious areas of work, with particular focus on data privacy, regulatory compliance, complex fraud, cyber-crime and contentious data protection matters; providing clients with representation as both an advocate and a litigant in a wide range of work. In November 2017, Richard also obtained a secondary qualification in Cyber Security (GSEC GIAC).
Richard has worked with a range of different clients on both contentious and non-contentious matters, including leaders in the technology, finance, insurance, data broking and ad-tech industries. As part of Richard's current role, he provides a wide range of services, including but not limited to data protection gap analysis, privacy and breach risk and impact assessments, policy and procedure review, legal drafting, data breach and compliance services (including, investigations, risk advice, litigation and regulatory engagement) and strategy advice.
His background in dealing with contentious work allows him to use his knowledge and experience of those matters which the Regulators are most interested and apply the appropriate risk lenses.
Richard also has experience in writing and creating data protection tools used by a number of organisations to assess their data protection and cyber security compliance and regularly presents workshops, presentations and delivers training on new and evolving data protection issues.
His dual qualification as a Solicitor and a Cyber Security Professional enables him to bridge the gap between cyber security and data protection and understand the overlapping considerations and key issues / risks in those areas that may otherwise be overlooked.
