Experience

Tom is a partner in our Global Risks Team and specialises in complex, high value policy coverage disputes. He has particular expertise in matters involving financial institutions, directors and officers, commercial crime and negligence by finance professionals including auditors, brokers, IFAs and underwriters.  

Tom is often instructed to resolve conflicts between layers of insurance and as monitoring counsel on litigation in other jurisdictions. 

He is experienced in the excess of loss, life sciences, construction and product liability sectors, including Bermuda Form Arbitration.  He also regularly works with his colleagues in the Corporate Team to assist their clients with insurance queries and subrogated recoveries. This involves advising not only company directors but also insolvency practitioners. 

He is ranked in both Chambers and Partners and in the Legal 500 and is a member of the CII, BILA, the LMA and provides training to in house legal and claims teams. He is also a visiting lecture at St Mary's University College, London.

Prior to joining DWF, Tom worked for both Aon and Beazley placing and underwriting financial institutions’ and professional indemnity risks in the Lloyd's market. On qualifying as a solicitor he spent time in Zurich Insurance’s Financial Lines Claims Team. All this previous in-house experience give him a commercial and intuitive approach to resolving complex insurance disputes.
