Experience
Stephen is a dual qualified engineer and lawyer, with nine years' experience as a structural design engineer and seven years' post admission experience in construction law.
Stephen advises clients in relation to a range of construction and infrastructure matters, working on significant front-end and back-end matters.
His experience includes advising a multilateral bank in relation to a proposed contract for the construction and long-term maintenance of a bus rapid transit line corridor and associated facilities and acting for a top tier builder and its parent company in cross-border litigation between joint venture partners and related entities arising in connection with a large scale road construction project.
He regularly advises claimants and respondents in relation to the security of payment regimes in Australian East Coast jurisdictions. An integral part of his experience is also guiding and appearing for clients (including an ASX listed builder) on regulatory matters such as licensing issues and disciplinary proceedings.
Stephen spent twelve months seconded to DWF's Doha office where he worked on large scale international arbitrations involving construction disputes. He has also been involved in a number of domestic arbitrations and litigation, including a number that involved allegedly combustible building cladding.
