Legal Operations leaders from across our global team hit the speaking circuit and exhibit floor earlier this month at the CLOC Global Institute in Las Vegas, USA. This event is the largest gathering of Legal Operations professionals in the world, and our team was pleased to speak about how DWF is driving innovation in the industry.
Rachita Maker, our Global Head of Legal Operations, Technology and Consulting, was one of several thought leaders at the conference, hosting a lunch-and-learn session centering on the near-term future of Legal Operations. With the room at full capacity, more than 65 attendees heard Rachita speak about how Legal Ops professionals can develop strategy for corporate legal teams.
Looking at the crystal ball, Rachita agreed that technology will continue to be an enabler and support us in many of our tasks, however going beyond legal tech the session covered how Legal Ops leaders shouldn’t just restrict themselves to GC's office but partner with the business by identifying key corporate strategic initiatives and link them to the legal department's strategy. The next prediction focused not just on the new skill sets required in the legal function but also the types of work that legal operations will undertake in the future which would penetrate further into the legal function and organization as a whole. As CLOs move further in their careers and take on CEO roles, Legal Ops leaders can look at taking on CLO roles. Finally, Rachita delved into the value of the creation of the legal department which can truly turn legal operations to being heroes in the organization.

To help generate some further 'buzz' at the event, the DWF booth featured a branded Mega Buzz Wire – a game designed to allow participants to maneuver a large metal wand along the curving wire without touching it. With a theme of “Untangling Your Legal Operations”, the number of legal professionals who tried their hand at getting through the game found that, just like in transforming legal departments, you have to have the right strategy, agility and patience to make it to the end successfully.
