Experience


Jan-Ulf was admitted as a German Rechtsanwalt. He has broad experience in advising and representing clients in international disputes, especially in the field of corporate and commercial litigation, real estate litigation, insurance disputes and cross border litigation. He has been advising and representing clients as a lawyer for over fifteen years and pleaded before various German courts, including the courts of appeal. His core expertise is representation of CEOs of large companies in liability disputes/D&O.

Jan-Ulf studied law in Germany and Scotland. He has a diploma, a master title and a Ph.D. in the field of law. He regularly publishes articles on procedural issues in the renowned legal journal NJW.

Prior to joining DWF, he worked in Litigation and Arbitration departments for other large international law firms.

    • Claim against two directors of a recycling company for EUR 2.3 million accused of having entered into uneconomical contracts 
    • Claim against a managing director of an asset management company for EUR 2.2 million for alleged breach of duty in connection with the acquisition of a company
    • Claim against two managing directors of an e-commerce company for EUR 2.7 million for alleged delay in filing for bankruptcy
    • Claims against three managing directors of a medium-sized German company for EUR 4 million due to alleged delay in filing for bankruptcy

2. Defence Counsel for board members and managing directors in liability proceedings

  • Defending a board member of a health insurance company against claims totalling EUR 9.2 million for alleged breach of compliance regulations (failure to monitor sales staff for unlawful conduct)
  • Defending a board member of a health insurance company against a claim for EUR 1.6 million for alleged improper investment of the company's reserves
  • Defending the directors of a dental technology company against a claim for over EUR 200,000 brought by the liquidator for delay in filing for bankruptcy

3. Monitoring Counsel for insurer in the context of a POSI insurance policy following a claim by investors against a public limited company for breach of ad hoc obligations in excess of EUR 3 billion

4. Monitoring Counsel for insurer on 18 lawsuits from various jurisdictions across Germany and 34 demand letters for a total of 52 proceedings following a cyber-breach of the insured, a major social media company headquartered in Canada, affecting people worldwide.
