DWF launches its Pathway to Net Zero and the DWF Forest

21 May 2025

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has published its 'Pathway to Net Zero' (PTNZ), committing to achieve net zero by 2045.

The announcement builds on the commitments DWF has already made, through its SBTI-verified near term targets to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

To achieve its ambitious net zero goal, DWF is prioritising a 90% emissions reduction target,  whilst collaborating with Climate Impact Partners on an innovative carbon removal project: the "DWF Forest" at Broadmeadows. This project will sequester carbon as it matures, addressing the firm's residual 10% emissions.

Located in Yarrowford, in the Scottish borders, the DWF Forest will have significant wider positive environmental and social impacts by restoring nature, protecting biodiversity and providing a platform for community engagement and education.

The project operates under the UK Woodland Carbon Code (WCC), the quality assurance standard for woodland carbon projects in the UK. More than half a million trees have been planted since 2018, including a mix of conifers and native broadleaves.

DWF is demonstrating innovation and leadership on net zero and nature restoration through this commitment. Whilst there is a growing expectation that all businesses will have a net zero ambition, the firm is aligning to best practice for a business of its size by independently investing in this significant project.

Sir Nigel Knowles, Chief Executive Officer of DWF, said: "Our Pathway to Net Zero represents our commitment to meaningful and measurable climate action. The DWF Forest is a long-term investment in environmental stewardship, going beyond carbon removal to actively restore nature and biodiversity. As the sole investor in this project, we have direct oversight to ensure real positive impact, reinforcing our responsibility to conduct business sustainably and with integrity.”

Sheri Hickock, Chief Executive Officer at Climate Impact Partners commented: We are proud to be part of DWF's ambitious climate strategy, partnering on a high-integrity carbon removal project. The DWF Forest demonstrates DWF's leadership, highlighting how businesses can address residual emissions while delivering impact beyond their own value chain. As a partner that bridges clients with projects, we ensure the right fit and long-term integrity. This is a standout example of a powerful match, driving real, measurable and sustainable climate impact.”

Alec Telfer, Landowner of DWF Forest, said: "For me, this forest is not just about planting trees, it’s about nurturing a modern and diverse farm for the future while staying rooted in the local community I care deeply about. Working alongside DWF on the enhancement and maintenance of the DWF Forest initiative which not only addresses climate change but also plays a key role in restoring biodiversity and benefiting our local community. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have for generations to come."
