DWF expands in Dubai with Finance and Restructuring Partner hire

11 January 2024

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has appointed Matthew Dyson as a new Partner to expand its Finance & Restructuring practice in Dubai.

Matthew joins DWF from Pinsent Masons, where, for the last six years, he played a key role building its finance and restructuring practice in Dubai.

Matthew acts for financial institutions, corporate and government-related entities across a wide range of transactional banking mandates including corporate lending, real estate finance and acquisition finance (on both a conventional and Sharia'h-compliant basis).

Additionally, Matthew has considerable experience advising creditors, debtors, management teams and insolvency practitioners across the full spectrum of distressed debt scenarios from consensual restructures to formal processes like administration and liquidation.

Matthew is the latest senior appointment in Dubai, becoming the 7th new partner to join in the past 12 months as DWF strengthens its presence in key Middle Eastern markets and taps into the vibrant talent pool in Dubai.

Matthew's arrival follows the additions of Bhavesh Dattani (financial services regulation and compliance), Victoria Clucas, Bill Evans and Adam Pryor (insurance), and Paul Suckling and Oliver Dupenois (construction dispute resolution) who all joined DWF's Dubai office in 2023.

Iain Shurwood, Global Head of Finance & Restructuring at DWF said: “We are delighted to welcome Matthew and his wealth of experience to DWF in Dubai. Matthew will play a key role in developing our finance and restructuring offering, including through his expertise in Islamic finance and the distressed debt space."

"Matthew has an outstanding reputation and on-the-ground market knowledge, which will further position DWF to meet the evolving needs of our clients in the region and maintain a competitive edge.”

James Fox, Managing Partner for DWF in Dubai, commented: "This latest senior hire in Dubai further builds on our expansion over the past 12 months. Matthew adds to our existing contentious restructuring expertise and means that our combined team has acted on many of the major restructurings in the region over the past five years."

Matthew added: “I am excited to join the team at DWF and continue building my practice in the Middle East, supported by colleagues globally. I look forward to collaborating with their talented team to deliver exceptional client service to allow them to navigate the dynamic Middle Eastern landscape."
