01 July 2025
DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has appointed Mary Smith, President of the Insurance Institute of Dublin, as a new insurance partner in Ireland.

Mary joins the team with over 15 years’ experience in insurance and construction law and brings significant expertise in professional indemnity claims across Ireland and the UK.

A highly experienced litigation solicitor, Mary is dual qualified in Ireland and in England and Wales. She has advised on a wide range of complex disputes, particularly in defending claims against professionals including architects, engineers, surveyors, solicitors and brokers. She is a Certified Insurance Practitioner and currently acts as a panel defence solicitor for several insurer-led professional indemnity schemes.

Mary, who completed the Insurance Institute’s Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) qualification, is the first lawyer to serve as President of the Insurance Institute of Dublin, marking a significant milestone for both the organisation and the wider insurance industry in Dublin.

James Colville, managing partner of DWF in Dublin, said: "Mary’s arrival comes at an important time for our Dublin team as we grow and expand into our new office space. Her experience, reputation and network in the insurance and construction sectors will further enhance our local and cross-border offering. We are delighted to welcome her to the partnership and excited to see the impact she will make."

Mary added: "I’m thrilled to be joining DWF at such an exciting point for the business in Ireland. DWF’s collaborative and forward-thinking culture, alongside its global reach, offers a fantastic platform to build on the relationships I’ve developed throughout my career. I look forward to working with James and colleagues across the business to deliver for our clients and contribute to the success of DWF in Dublin."
