Nigel Teasdale appointed to Civil Justice Council

06 May 2026

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, is proud to announce that Nigel Teasdale, commercial director in its Insurance Services division, has been appointed to the Civil Justice Council, approved by the Lord Chancellor for a three-year term commencing 23rd January 2026.

The Civil Justice Council, established under the Civil Procedure Act 1997, is an advisory body that plays a vital statutory role in keeping the civil justice system under review. It brings together members of the judiciary, legal profession, civil service and wider stakeholders to advise on how the system can be made more accessible, fair and efficient. The Council is empowered to make proposals for reform and to undertake research to inform the development of civil justice policy.

Nigel is Global Commercial Director for Insurance at DWF and has worked within DWF and the wider insurance industry for nearly 30 years. He has extensive experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex client relationships. Working closely with major insurers, Nigel is known for delivering innovative, commercially focused solutions underpinned by strong technical expertise.

He is a former President of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) and has provided evidence to both the UK Parliament’s Transport Select Committee and Justice Select Committee on insurance and motor-related issues, including fraudulent and exaggerated whiplash claims and associated reforms. Nigel also serves as a Director of MedCo, the independent body established to improve the quality and integrity of medico-legal reporting in low-value personal injury claims.

As a respected voice within the insurance sector, Nigel regularly contributes to industry policy discussions and debates that inform civil justice reform. His appointment to the Civil Justice Council reflects his longstanding commitment to ensuring that the civil justice system operates fairly, efficiently and in a way that balances the interests of claimants, defendants and the wider public.

Commenting on his appointment, Nigel said: "I am honoured to be appointed to the Civil Justice Council at a time of significant change and opportunity within the civil justice system. I look forward to working with fellow members to support reforms that enhance accessibility, fairness and efficiency, while maintaining confidence in the system for all its users."

Matthew Doughty, CEO of DWF, added: “Nigel’s appointment to the Civil Justice Council is richly deserved. His deep understanding of the insurance market, combined with his experience contributing to policy development and parliamentary scrutiny, will bring valuable insight to the Council’s work. We are proud to see him playing a key role in shaping the future of civil justice reform.”
