Stewart joins DWF from PwC where for the last five years he was a partner and Global Head of Cyber Security and Data Protection Legal Services. He qualified as a Barrister in 1991 and a Solicitor in 2001.
Following a successful period in private practice at the London Bar, he joined Rowe Cohen Solicitors in 2001, to build their data protection business. After that, he joined Field Fisher Waterhouse in 2007, helping establish their data protection practice. He subsequently joined PwC in 2014 to set up their data protection business.
Stewart is a co-founder of The Cyber Security Challenge UK and is the President of The National Association of Data Protection Officers.
At DWF, Stewart will lead and grow the data protection and cyber security business globally. He will advise clients in the field of data protection and information management, including the commercial use of data, the security of data and systems, regulatory investigations and litigation arising from the misuse of data.
Commenting on his appointment, Andrew Leaitherland, CEO of DWF Group plc, said, "Stewart's experience and wealth of knowledge from advising on some of the most complex data protection issues over the years, is invaluable. Stewart will help lead and grow our data protection and cyber security practice globally and I'm in no doubt that Stewart will help propel this practice into top gear in the coming years."
Stewart added, "I'm delighted to have joined DWF at one the most exciting phases of its journey. Privacy, data protection and cyber security issues have established themselves as mission-critical concerns for business and utmost priorities for the public. Yet, there is still much fear and misunderstanding as to how businesses deal with the challenges they are facing, including how to maintain the confidence of their customers, business partners and their workforces. I am looking forward to continuing my work at DWF, helping businesses facing these issues to plan and manage their approaches, with the help and support of my new colleagues."
