DWF comments on the updated Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

05 November 2020
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended further to March 2021 following the Chancellor's announcement.  The CJRS will now remain open for a further five months until the end of March 2021. Joanne Frew, head of employment practice at legal business DWF, commented:
"The extension of the CJRS will provide employers with much needed support and a degree of certainty over the winter months for employers and employees.  The ever-changing Government support has once again been updated to continue to try, and protect jobs and livelihoods across the UK.

"Now is the time for crucial business planning, including auditing the workforce to determine who needs to be furloughed.  Employers will need to ensure the correct records and furlough agreements are in place, providing vital evidence to HMRC of the genuine nature of claims made and providing maximum flexibility with regard to the furlough arrangement to ensure the employer can focus on business continuity. Employers also need to revisit finances to ensure any expectation of the job retention bonus is removed, as that will no longer apply."
