DWF shines as it leads on sale of Fabergé Limited

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has advised Gemfields Group Limited on the sale of Fabergé Limited, the iconic luxury brand, for $50 million. 

Gemfields is a world-leading supplier of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones. It owns and operates the Kagem emerald mine in Zambia (the world’s single largest producing emerald mine) and the Montepuez Ruby Mine in Mozambique, and is widely credited with transforming the coloured gemstone sector through a commitment to ethical sourcing, transparency, and marketing excellence.

Fabergé is one of the world’s most renowned storied names in luxury jewellery and objets d’art with an unrivalled and illustrious heritage which has been a central part of Gemfields' efforts to champion emeralds and rubies on the global stage. 

The DWF team was led by corporate partner James Wilson, supported by corporate director Jemil Visram, corporate solicitor Matthew Kernohan and tax partner Tom Rank.

Fabergé was acquired by SMG Capital LLC, a US-based investment company owned by Mr Sergei Mosunov, for $50 million comprising an initial $45 million completion payment and a further $5 million payable by way of royalty payments. Mr Mosunov is a tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist who was advised by DLA Piper UK LLP.
