Event details
Retail sector crime levels are rising at an exponential rate. Incidents of shoplifting, violence, and abuse toward staff and customers have reached deeply worrying levels. Conventional mechanisms for crime prevention and detection do not provide retailers with what they need. It is therefore understandable why the retail sector is turning to innovations such as the use of facial recognition technology and AI to combat crime.
However, whilst the benefits are well publicised, are retail and hospitality organisations fully prepared for the legal scrutiny and ethical challenges that come with deploying biometric technologies?
In this roundtable, hear from DWF's team of multi-disciplinary experts as we explore the regulatory and judicial landscape applicable to facial recognition technology (including the use of biometrics and AI) and outline the critical requirements for a proportionate and compliant roll out of these technologies (including the need for comprehensive Data Protection Impact Assessments, standard operating procedures, success factors, operational roll out through pilots, commercial agreements with suppliers and associated employment issues such as discrimination).
