Experience


Anthony is a highly skilled insurance lawyer with over 20 years' experience acting on behalf of insurers, self-insureds, corporations, government bodies, and instrumentalities. He advises on workers' compensation, compulsory third party insurance, product liability, and public liability, with particular expertise in managing complex, high quantum, catastrophic, and scheme-sensitive claims.

He specializes in advising employers, insurers, and regulators on workers' compensation entitlements, reviews, and appeals. With his extensive experience, he offers strategic guidance on entitlements, conducts thorough claim reviews, and manages appeals effectively. Anthony ensures compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and helps clients develop risk mitigation strategies. Dedicated to delivering practical solutions, he provides tailored, client-focused advice for optimal outcomes.

Anthony has long-standing experience in common law claims under the Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, common law claims under the Personal Injuries Proceeding Act 2003 and the Civil Liability Act 2003, claims under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (Cth), and the Trade Practices Act 1974.

Anthony represents both WorkCover and self-insurers in relation to statutory and common law claims, providing cogent and strategic advice with respect to claim management, indemnity, liability, quantum, third party contribution and claims strategy, including fraud identification and successful referral for prosecution.  He advises major insurers on compulsory third party claims, with a special interest in claims involving complex liability and quantum issues and fraud.  He advises Commonwealth government departments and instrumentalities, and self-insured parties under the Comcare regime in respect of their decision making, and provides representation in review applications proceeding before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Federal Court.  

Anthony has significant experience providing legal advice and representation to WorkCover, Comcare and its authorised licensee holders in the defence of asbestos related claims, quantum range and prospect determination, drafting of proceedings, protocol development, litigation advancement, informal negotiation and settlement.  

Having previously held the role of the Manager of Legal Services for WorkCover, Anthony managed the legal services division of WorkCover Queensland, with direct responsibility for fraud prosecutions, corporate legal advice and subrogated recovery actions. 

Anthony's approach to matters is assertive, not aggressive, and he works from the premise that every client and case is unique, requiring a unique solution. This goes beyond being good at interpreting and applying law and extends to being good with people. Having worked in both private practice and in-house, Anthony has a proven capability to deliver cost-effective, practical solutions for his clients in all aspects of insurance law.
