Experience
Richard's work as a fee earner over 18 years has included various of areas of personal injury litigation.Acting for NHS Trusts and beneficiaries, Richard has considerable experience in clinical negligence dealing with a variety of complex and high-value claims. As part of his practice, Richard appeared regularly as advocate in the High Court at CCMCs as well as interim application hearings. He has secured the strike out of several claims as well as wasted costs and Civil Restraint Orders.
Richard has also appeared at the County Court in a range of negligence claims, dealing with CCMCs and applications ranging from specific disclosure to strike out/summary Judgment. Richard has considerable expertise in relation to Pre-Action Disclosure, appearing at numerous hearings to successfully oppose applications and recover costs.
Richard's experience includes a number of years handling small and fast-track RTA and EL/PL claims as well as fast and multi-track travel litigation matters including contractual and jurisdictional issues. Richard has acted for a broad range of clients including insurers, NHS Trusts, medical professionals, tour operators, local authorities and regulatory bodies.
Richard has conducted numerous training sessions on topics including civil procedure, litigation tactics, costs and expert evidence. He has also provided external training to General Practitioners and also as part of a Clinical Risk and Claims Management Diploma.
Richard is a contributing author to LexisNexis PI & Clinical Negligence.
Outside of work, Richard enjoys badminton, cycling and (very) amateur photography.

- Read v North Middlesex Hospital Trust [2025] EWHC 1603 (KB) – Widely reported case in which Richard devised a novel interpretation of CPR 44.15 to secure disapplication of QOCS.
- Francis v Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust [2023] EWHC 2636 [KB] – Strike out of loss of earnings claim made by a Solicitor. Indemnity costs order and wasted costs order obtained.
