DWF secures dismissal of SKAT’s £1.4bn tax claim

02 October 2025

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has successfully secured the dismissal of a £1.4bn claim brought against its clients by Skatteforvaltningen (or SKAT), the Danish Customs and Tax Administration.

The DWF team, led by partners Richard Twomey and Joshua Fineman, defended the claim on behalf of three of the Defendants. DWF instructed 3VB’s David Head KC, Christopher Bond, Tom De Vecchi, Sophia Dzwig and One Essex Court’s Hannah Glover.

The judgment found that SKAT was not misled into paying more than 4,000 dividend tax refund claims, at it had alleged.

Commenting on today’s judgment, Richard Twomey said: “We are pleased with today’s outcome in this landmark litigation which has been ongoing for many years.”  Joshua Fineman added: “Our clients have always maintained that they have no liability to SKAT, and we are satisfied that this position has been upheld.”
