Government affairs expert joins DWF in London

07 June 2021
DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has appointed Maher Ghanma as a new partner in London.
At DWF, Maher will support the development of key client relationships across the Middle East and Africa region and new markets for the business. Maher will also leverage his deep knowledge of the politics of the Middle East and Africa region to provide practical advice and advance the commercial interest of clients.

Maher joins DWF with more than two decades of experience in the provision of government affairs and public policy services to executive offices of heads of state, regulators, and sovereign wealth funds across the Middle East and Africa region. He also advises financial institutions, defence contractors, and other multinational companies representing a diverse set of portfolios and sectors on public policy issues in the context of transactional and contentious matters.

He joins DWF's Legal Advisory practice following 12 years at DLA Piper as Head of Government Affairs for the Middle East region. Prior to that, Maher served in the Offices of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah in Jordan and the Executive Office of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE.

Maher becomes the tenth partner to have joined DWF since the start of its new financial year on 1 May.

Sir Nigel Knowles, CEO of DWF Group plc, said: "I am delighted that Maher has chosen to join our Legal Advisory practice at a pivotal time. Maher's connections, along with his ability to cultivate and develop key client relationships in the Middle East and around the world, will be a valuable addition as we look to expand our integrated legal and business services offering to clients, globally.

"We are seeing really strong interest from high caliber partner candidates in joining DWF. We have already brought in ten excellent new partners to our business in just the past six weeks and we have a good pipeline of talent as well, across all areas of our business and in a wide range of locations."

Maher said: "There is growing demand for businesses to manage the politics of their business across developing markets, particularly because in most of these markets, governments are the largest investors and employers while simultaneously acting as regulators in their respective jurisdictions. I am incredibly excited to be joining the ambitious and entrepreneurial team at DWF and helping clients navigate complex law and policy issues, and identifying related commercial opportunities around the world."

Andrew Carpenter, Corporate Partner in London, said: "Maher's experience in the Gulf and North Africa regions will greatly enhance our service offering and ability to add value to our client relationships. We are delighted he has chosen to join our growing team."
