International legal business DWF has appointed a new executive partner for its Birmingham office.
Jon Stevens, a partner in the business's tax team, has taken on the role of executive partner for the Birmingham office at One Snowhill.
In his role as executive partner Jon will be responsible for driving forward DWF’s strategic business objectives through effective employee engagement and client service delivery as well as leading the Birmingham office’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) work in the local community.
Jon has over 17 years' experience of advising on tax matters ranging across all disciplines with particular interest in real estate transactions and corporate matters.
A large amount of the work undertaken by the Birmingham tax team would typically be carried out by City of London firms and the team works for large high-profile clients such as the Whitbread Group, owners of the Costa and Premier Inn brands.
Jon joined the Birmingham office in 2013 in order to create an externally-focused, consulting tax practice at DWF. His appointment gave DWF a presence in the tax sector in the Midlands for the first time. Prior to 2013 DWF had around 40 staff based in Birmingham, this has now grown to around 150 staff.
DWF has continued to grow both nationally and internationally. In June 2017 DWF acquired legal costs specialist NeoLaw in a deal which saw 21 people join DWF’s London and Birmingham offices. The additional staff joined DWF’s existing in-house costs department to provide capability in delivering specialist legal costs and private client services, making the new business division one of the largest legal costs practices in the UK.
In September 2017 DWF posted unaudited global revenues of over £201.3million, an eight percent increase on the previous year's final audited revenue figure. In October 2017 DWF opened two new offices in Australia followed by a new office in Milan bringing its total to 26 offices across four continents.
As well as tax matters, the Birmingham office covers areas of expertise including insurance, real estate, corporate, banking, commercial litigation, employment, occupational health and casualty, counter fraud and EU competition.
The Birmingham office has worked with the business's charity, the DWF Foundation, to help local organisations that support communities in the area. In 2017 some of the grants awarded by the DWF Foundation included funding for three Inditherm Mattresses for Birmingham Children's Hospital, a grant to Breast Cancer Haven West Midlands to help provide therapeutic treatments for women diagnosed with breast cancer and funds to support young people from deprived backgrounds through Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Jon Stevens said:
"I am delighted to take on the role of executive partner for the Birmingham office. The Birmingham team has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and our innovative approach to legal services regularly attracts work from large national and international clients. I look forward to leading the office in continuing to provide a broad range of legal services to our clients and to working with local communities through the DWF Foundation."
