Recap on data protection operating models, management and resourcing

20 March 2024

On 28 February 2024, we hosted a Data Protection and Cyber Security Breakfast Briefing as part of our roundtable series. This session was dedicated to data protection operating models, management and resourcing. We finished the session by considering the components which constitute a good operating model.

The session began by demystifying the term "operating model" and explained the importance of having a clear framework for managing processes, resources, roles and activities necessary to achieve an organisation's strategic objectives. We also demonstrated the impact that a good operating model can have on an organisation.

We encouraged attendees to consider their own operating models against what we consider key components of a successful operating model. Our belief is that a strong operating model considers aspects such as structure, processes, capabilities and technology. We further discussed the regulatory and legal requirements businesses must adhere to, both in the UK and Europe, in order to have an operating model that is both practical and robust.

We also presented a practical example of what an effective operating model could look like for businesses across the end-to-end data life cycle and through each layer of a business i.e. the people, paper and technology/data layers. Finally, we shared examples of a range of tools that can assist businesses in optimising their operating model.

We also provided further information on our new and exciting offering: The Data Protection Extend & Accelerate programme. This programme provides high-quality staff augmentation to cover data protection roles at excellent rates to help our clients cover resource capacity constraints, special projects and absences.
