DWF Family Support Groups

05 July 2023

Based on feedback from our colleagues, DWF have recently expanded its D&I Employee Networks to include additional family support groups. These include baby loss and miscarriage and adoption and fertility.

These topics are often seen as taboo in the workplace, and yet can have a huge impact on the lives of colleagues.

The goal of the groups is therefore to provide a safe space for colleagues to support one another and share experiences, to publicise the support that is available through DWF and to normalise conversations on these topics in the workplace.

HR Specialist, Alex Lunt has led the creation and development of the groups and recently held listening sessions with members to understand more about the challenges colleagues experience relating to baby loss, miscarriage, adoption and fetility and gather feedback on how DWF can provide further support.

She said of the sessions "It was great to get such engagement with these listening sessions. During the listening sessions, our current support groups members, were able to share their experiences, offer support to one another in addition to sharing details of support they were able to get externally. It was great to also receive suggestions of the further direction we can take our support groups and I am looking forward to continuing to help to develop this, in order to support our collegues who may be going through these challenges'

In addition the group have also created:

  • Buddy lists including group members who have volunteered to share their experiences and advise others.
  • A dedicated intranet page including links to our family friendly policies (covering entitlements such as paid leave related to IVF treatment or baby loss), our global Employee Assistance Programme, our Digital GP service, and supportive charities and organisations.
  • A dedicated private Yammer pages for members to connect and share content such as articles, webinars and other resources.

Matt Glenville, DWF Chief Operating Officer, is the executive sponsor for the groups and is excited to see DWF taking on and continuing conversations on these topics. He said,

"These initiative align with two key areas of our Global Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, mental health and creating a better gender balance. Challenges associated with baby loss, miscarriage, adoption and fertility can have a huge impact on a person's wellbeing, whether they have been impacted directly or through a loved one. It is therefore important that we provide support for all colleagues, regardless of gender, and assist them in seeking the support that is right for them."
