The building envelope has been designed to meet BREEAM 'excellent' standards with features including energy-efficient air to water heat pumps, low energy LED lighting and solar panels installed on-site.
The UK's largest hospitality group will use the key learnings from the design and operation of this innovative new hotel to inform the emissions-reducing retrofit of the Premier Inn estate.
DWF supported Premier Inn on its acquisition of the site and ongoing advice in respect of construction and planning.
Richard Aldread, Head of Construction in the UK and Ireland at Whitbread said, “Premier Inn Swindon Town Centre is our first all-electric hotel without connection to a mains gas supply and is the culmination of years of hard work and commitment to designing and operating lower-carbon hotels – which has helped us reduce direct operational emissions by over 50% since 2016. It represents a significant milestone as we endeavour to bring our operational emissions to zero by 2040.”

Premier Inn, Swindon Town Centre has been shortlisted for Built Environment Project of the Year in Edie’s Net Zero Awards, which take place on 15 November 2023.
