DWF launches a Workplace Adjustments Policy

13 February 2023

We want everyone to be at their best and recognise that sometimes a small adjustment can make a big difference.

As stated in our Global Diversity and Inclusion strategy, at DWF it's our vision to create a working environment and culture where people of all different backgrounds are able to contribute at their highest level.

However, we appreciate that every colleague is an individual, who experiences different challenges, and has their own personal needs. We want colleagues to feel comfortable sharing their challenges with us and seeking support.

Workplace adjustments is a term we use to refer to changes that can be made to remove or reduce the impact of a barrier preventing a person from undertaking their work or activity to the best of their ability.

Whilst procedures to manage workplace adjustments have been in place at DWF for a number of years, we recently took the decision to formalise our approach and commitment in a global policy.

We wanted to ensure that all our colleagues understand the support that is available and the types of adjustments that can be made. We considered diverse requirements in the development of the policy which includes references to neurodiversity, carers, working parents, those experiencing menopause, colleagues with mobility challenges or disabilities, and people with mental health challenges. It also references illness, injury and surgery as well as the fact adjustments may be required on a permanent or temporary basis.

To assist colleagues in considering how workplace adjustments may be of benefit to them we have included guidance on how to access support and a non-exhaustive list of examples such as interview & on-boarding support, physical aids such as wrist support and ergonomic furniture, software programmes, on site facilities, changes to working patterns and training.

Matt Glenville, DWF Group Chief Operating Officer said "Through this policy, the ongoing work of our D&I Employee Networks and our wider D&I strategy, we want to encourage open and productive conversations about support requirements so that our colleagues can bring their full selves into the work environment."

As the circumstances and needs of our colleagues can change over time, we will continue to promote our approach to workplace adjustments on a regular basis and encourage colleagues to access the support that is right for them, to balance their personal needs and work life.
