DWF Legal Director publishes book on commercial agency

17 March 2021
Ben Griffin, Legal Director at global provider of integrated legal and business services, DWF, has written a new book on commercial agency.
Co-authored with the leading barrister in the field of the Commercial Agency Regulations, "Commercial Agency: A Practical and Legal Guide," has been written to provide practical analysis and advice to agents, principals and their representatives (both legal and non-legal) on the key questions that arise between them, during an agency relationship and following its conclusion.

The book addresses key issues that arise in the commercial agency context, including, when do the Regulations not apply? What rights and obligations do the parties have during the agency? What sort of (mis-)conduct entitles the other party to terminate for cause? How can an agent or principal vary the terms of the agency without ending it? When is an agent entitled to an indemnity or compensation following termination? How does one calculate the value of that indemnity or compensation?

Commenting on the book's launch, Ben Griffin said, "There is a substantial body of case law that needs to be understood in order to apply the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993."Our book is a no-nonsense guide that will help agents, principals and their representatives navigate their way around what can be a tricky area of law."

Ben specialises in complex, high-value, cross-jurisdictional litigation and arbitration, with a particular focus on Russia and other post-Soviet states/the CIS. He has also developed a practice in commercial agency law and is one of the leading solicitors in the field of Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993.

'Commercial Agency – A Practical and Legal Guide' is available for purchase now from Law Brief Publishing Ltd and Amazon.
