Guinevere Capital also holds majority ownership stakes in; the LG Dire Wolves, a thriving League of Legends team in the Oceanic Pro League (OPL) who have won the last four OPL titles; the Sydney Drop Bears, an Overwatch Contender Series team who have won both seasons to date; and the Esports High Performance Centre, which was the first high-end training facility in the esports sector and is based at the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust.
Managing Director of Guinevere Capital, Dave Harris, moves onto exceL Interactive’s board. Dave has an extensive list of successful projects in the traditional sports arena, with his last role before starting Guinevere Capital in 2016 being General Manager at the National Rugby League in Australia. He brings this experience to the esports sector and had this to say on DWF’s involvement:
Dave Harris said: “We’re really excited to expand into the UK esports market via this transaction into exceL, which allows us to replicate our strategy of developing esports teams & infrastructure in a new region. The work of DWF and Mat Jessep was critical in getting the deal finalised. Though working on the other side of the world in different time zones, Mat’s responsiveness and advice was beyond expectations.”
