Experience

Hannes studied European and Comparative Law at the Hanse Law School, a trinational study program of the Universities of Bremen, Oldenburg and Groningen, bringing in-depth knowledge of various European legal systems. After completing his LL.M. degree and his “meester in de rechten” (a Dutch degree), he worked as a research assistant at maritime and transport law specialist firms in Hamburg. He completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Schleswig and was admitted as a lawyer in Hamburg in 2017. Since then he has worked exclusively in transport and maritime commercial law.

His practice focuses on maritime and inland waterway law, freight and forwarding law, multimodal transport, civil procedure law and maritime dispute resolution. He advises shipping companies, charterers, logistics companies, shippers and insurers on charterparties, bills of lading, freight contracts, transport damage, collisions, casualties and recourse claims.

In addition to out-of-court advice, Hannes regularly litigates and represents clients before state courts as well as in maritime and transport arbitration proceedings. Clients value his practical, clear and solution-oriented approach and his willingness to explain and strategically manage complex international matters.  He speaks German, English and fluent Dutch, which is particularly advantageous in Dutch-German and other Benelux constellations. Hannes regularly participates in international conferences and professional events in the field of maritime and transport law.
