Alex has gained a wide variety of experience acting for clients (employers, contractors, sub-contractors) in international arbitrations. He has also acted for construction professionals and their insurers in insurance policy coverage disputes, property damage and professional negligence claims. Alex also has experience advising in insurance policy coverage disputes.

Recent cases

  • Representing a contractor in a London-seated ICC arbitration under Qatar law in connection with the construction of a multi-billion dollar desalination plant (matter ongoing). 
  • Representing a joint venture in three ICC arbitrations against three separate subcontractors in relation to a multi-billion dollar construction project in Qatar (matters ongoing). 
  • Representing an Austrian contractor in an in a multi-million dollar Doha-seated ICC arbitration under Qatar law in relation to a metro project (matter ongoing). 
  • Advising an employer in connection with a QAR 2.5 billion hotel development in Qatar in respect of various disputes arising between subcontractor and consultant (matter ongoing). Representing a Malaysian main contractor against its MEP subcontractor in a multi-million dollar Doha-seated ICC arbitration under Qatar law in connection with the construction of a government ministry (award rendered). 
  • Representing a Qatari architectural firm in connection with a Doha-seated arbitration under Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) (matter settled). 
  • Representing a contractor in defence of a QAR 350 million property damage / negligence claim in relation to a power station fire brought in the Technology & Construction Court, Commercial Court, England & Wales (matter settled). 
  • Representing an architectural firm in a circa QAR 50 million claim for alleged negligent design and advice in relation to the construction of the cladding and façade on a university student accommodation village. 
  • Part of a team advising in relation to a complex insurance policy coverage dispute (circa QAR 50m) heard in part under the Shorter Trials Scheme (Commercial Court), and the subject of appeals to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court (United Kingdom) on issues of contractual interpretation. 
  • Part of a team advising in respect to an insurer client's response to multiple insurance policy coverage disputes arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, including in respect to the Financial Conduct Authority 'Test Case' heard by the Supreme Court (United Kingdom).
