1. Please tell us a bit about yourself, your job and where in the world you work.
I am Carlos Domínguez and I am a Senior Associate at DWF-RCD. RCD (Rousaud Costas Duran) is the Spanish branch of DWF in Spain with offices in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. I form part of the Innovation and Entrepeunership team and am based in our Barcelona office.
2. What key industries/sectors do you work with?
In the Innovation and Entrepeunership team at DWF-RCD we mainly focus on the startup ecosystem and our clients include tech and biotech companies, venture capital firms, startups, corporate venturing initiatives and spin-offs from public institutions.
We currently have a team of 50 people in the Innovation and Entrepeunership team, with colleagues working across the Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia offices.
3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with companies whose goal is to develop new technology, new business models or generate new ideas. It is a constant challenge as your legal solutions have to keep up with their innovation and pace. This means you learn everyday from what you do and you are always doing things for the first time.
4. What makes the Barcelona office unique compared to other locations?
Barcelona is a fantastic city, well known for its sun, football clubs and its food and cultural attractions and is considered the city with the best quality of life for professionals according to the European Cities Monitor.
In the last decade, Barcelona has become one of the most important startup hubs in Europe. It is now a key city for intensive knowledge centers (particularly in biotechnology and biomedicine) and innovative and technological businesses with some international brands choosing to move its innovative divisions into the city, hosting events like the Mobile World Congress - the world’s most influential exhibition for the connectivity industry.
5. What piece of advice would you give to a YP looking to work in the Barcelona office?
Barcelona is a great City attracting domestic and international talent as well as innovative ventures. Bareclona has over 300,000 expats, which accounts for more than 20% of the city’s total population. It is definitely a place to look forward to work and live in.
6. If a YP from another country was coming to visit you, where would you take them?
Barcelona has a great number of fantastic attractions for visitors. We could take them to a thrilling football match at the Camp Nou or the Cornella-El Prat Stadiums or to a F1 or Moto GP grand prix at Montmelo. We could visit the Sagrada Familia and the Paseo de Gracia, with its famous Gaudi buildings or visit one of the numerous city’s museums, such as the Museo Picasso; take a walk on its beaches and enjoy its mediterranean sun and finish the days dining in some of the finest restaurants in the world.
