Energy Insurance

0056 Insurance subsector WT 767x431px

Our London Market Energy Insurance team has a full national and international reach, with ability to service our clients' needs across the globe.

Why work with our Energy Insurance team?

Our experts advise on coverage, recovery and defence, and have experience in all forms of dispute resolution, including in international and appellate courts, as well as mediation, arbitration and adjudication.

First party coverage disputes handled by our Energy team have included complex multi-million and billion pound disputes under insurance and reinsurance contracts. They regularly advise on coverage issues under CAR policies and the interrelated contractual obligations.

Our Third Party Liability claims experience spans activities in the construction and engineering of energy projects, as well as catastrophic loss events, resulting in damage to property, or injury or death. Advice can cover environmental and pollution issues, through to subsidence and collapse, explosions and fires, flooding, health and safety, and issues with sub-contractors.

In the Reinsurance arena, our team has extensive experience of working on disputes that arise under facultative covers, whether fronting arrangements or excess of loss contracts. We have had success in facilitating settlements and litigating claims relating to the particular tensions that can arise under reinsurance structures.

How we can help you

Our Energy team advise on a full spectrum of energy claims and coverage matters including:

We have a successful record of pursuing subrogated recovery actions recouping insurers' outlays paid under their own policies. One action followed the failure in design and operation of steam hatches serving the pipework of a steam turbine in Trinidad and Tobago, involving issues of metallurgical fracture analysis and 'quenching'.

In the Renewable area, our Energy team has dealt with numerous claims and coverage matters, including related to defective design of a hydroelectric pressure tunnel in Peru, business interruption losses suffered by a solar plant in Morocco, and damage to UK wind turbines, involving consideration of wear and tear and latent defect exclusions.
