Experience
James is a commercial litigator, possessing extensive experience in large scale commercial litigation and financial lines insurance disputes at both State and Federal court levels. His practice also consists of advising national and global insurers on coverage issues, policy response and insurance disputes, primarily in relation to financial lines insurance policies.Prior to joining DWF, James practised law at national and global law firms. He also has experience in the areas of general commercial litigation, defamation and reputational risk, regulatory actions, debt recoveries and employment disputes.
Recent Cases
- Instructed by leading domestic insurer to act as defence counsel on behalf of it’s insured, a law practice, in relation to a professional negligence claim in the Supreme Court of NSW’s Equity Division. Was successful in obtaining orders dismissing those proceedings with costs following the plaintiff’s non-compliance with orders for security for costs.
- Appointed by international insurer as coverage and defence counsel on behalf of its insured, a firm of investment managers and its previous partners, in relation to a shareholder class action.
- Engaged by international insurer to advise an Australian bank in relation to D&O policy response for a shareholder class action before the Federal Court of Australia.
- Instructed by international insurer as coverage counsel to advise on a shareholder class action against its insured, an ASX listed Australian multi-disciplined engineering company in the mining, energy, resources and power industries.
