Experience

Julia advises clients in the transport, logistics, shipping and manufacturing sectors on a wide variety of commercial and regulatory issues, specialising in transport and shipping law. She has extensive experience in comprehensive claims handling and managing cargo damage cases in road, rail and air transport. She has handled complex, cross-border loss scenarios, including a major contamination claim involving liquid cargo worth approximately USD 11 million.

Julia regularly advises transport companies on regulatory compliance, including the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 561/2006 regarding driving and rest times, the market access requirements of the German Road Haulage Act (GüKG), and Regulation (EC) No. 1071/2009. She also advises on customs law matters. In her customs practice, she advises on Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status and represents clients before customs authorities, as well as preparing formal objections. She also advises on liability risks under the German Fiscal Code in connection with the transport of smuggled goods.

Additionally, she has extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. This includes framework agreements for the booking of freight capacity, international transport and logistics agreements, offshore plant construction contracts and project-related supply agreements. She advises on the effective incorporation of standard terms and conditions, including the ADSp, in both domestic and international transactions and drafts commercial and private lease agreements.

Julia also specialises in dispute resolution, including litigation under the German Commercial Code (HGB), the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), the Montreal Convention, and the Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), as well as arbitration proceedings relating to complex project contracts. She also provides advice on compliance matters, corporate legal issues, due diligence processes, and international sales law under the CISG.
