DWF partners with Barclays Eagle Labs new law-tech initiative to help transform the legal industry

22 April 2018
DWF has announced that it will support a new venture, spearheaded by Barclays UK and The Law Society, that sees the launch of a new legal technology incubator that aims to provide start-ups with a platform for growth and development.
The incubator, called The Eagle Lab, offers mentoring, incubation, co-working and events support to start-ups, giving new businesses the opportunity to develop and test new ideas in a bid to revolutionise the law tech field. The Eagle Lab joins a growing network of Barclays-founded businesses labs that have been set up to help start-ups scale, innovative and grow, with a particular emphasis on technology solutions.

As a partner in the initiative DWF will have access to the law-tech businesses and their innovations and will actively provide feedback and guidance to help them to develop, test and refine their products to help drive growth and innovation across the industry.

Jonathan Patterson, MD and Head of Development at DWF Ventures, said: "We are really looking forward to working with Barclays, The Law Society and the other partnering law firms to support the entrepreneurs in The Eagle Lab. We can't wait to get started on helping them to develop and test their products and it is a perfect fit for the collaborative research & development approach we have developed with DWF Ventures."

Ashok Vaswani, Chief Executive of Barclays UK, said: “Law-tech is an area where the UK has every reason to be a world leader. It is home to some of the greatest law firms in the world and we want to help build on the success of its legal sector, and play a leading role in transforming law-tech in the future. The impressive range of partners supporting this initiative shows just how important this is. Our Eagle Labs are supporting thriving new businesses up and down the country, and our Notting Hill lab will lead the way as an industry centre of excellence for law-tech.”

Ranked by the Financial Times as one of the top ten most innovative legal businesses in Europe, DWF has a long track record of supporting and creating tech-focused initiatives; last year the business launched its Connected Services arm, a new business division that forms an umbrella over a range of solutions and services, including research & development and business consulting, that complement its core legal service offering.
