Experience
Ruth has over 35 years experience handling personal injury claims at home and abroad. She has helped shape our road traffic law with her court of appeal wins Farley v Buckley and Evitt v Burton. Ruth was the lead editor of Bingham and Berrymans' Motor claims cases.
Ruth has successfully defended two employers liability claims involving ladders and a tripping accident which she took to the court of appeal on behalf of a construction company. She has also successfully defended 2 claims in the Isle of Man. Ruth was a finalist in the women in insurance lawyer of the year category in 2020.
Ruth has secured 2 very good outcomes for coach companies being sued as a result of multi passenger injuries in road traffic accidents in France and Belgium, the former claim involving a significant jurisdiction argument. As a partner and head of the transport group at BLM Ruth led two very successful volume motor claims teams at Manchester and Liverpool and a very successful bus and coach team at Birmingham office.
Ruth has mentored a number of para legals, trainee solicitors and assistant solicitors who are now successful partners in insurance practises across the country. Ruth was chair person of the Manchester Young Solicitors Group, Chair of Manchester Law Society Civil Litigation committee for 15 years and she is now an active member of the Confederation of passenger transport and provides their claims and insurance group with a legal update at their bi annual meetings.
Ruth is a non exec group chair of a successful motor insurer based in Gibraltar.
