Webinar recording: Implications of the UK-EU Common Understanding agreement

29 June 2026

A plan to realign UK and EU food law across a range of policy areas marks another significant shift in the post-Brexit regulatory landscape. From stricter limits on additives and changes to how novel foods are approved, to tougher rules on food packaging and restrictions on plant-based food descriptions, the potential ramifications for businesses are many and varied.

During this latest Webinar (in association with Footprint Legal) we explore the implications of the UK-EU Common Understanding agreement and specifically the plan for the UK to align with EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) legislation.

During the session, we discussed:

  • The legislation in scope of the agreement and what it means in practice for food businesses with respect to trade, policy and compliance;
  • What businesses should be doing now to prepare for future realignment in areas like food labelling, nutrition and health claims, novel foods, food marketing, and packaging policy, including food contact materials linked to concerns around PFAS;
  • The areas in which the UK may seek exemptions and how this might impact future policy in areas like food technology and animal welfare.
