Important Updates

Consultation on clearer allergen labelling: 

DEFRA have launched a consultation with four options for improving the labelling of products that are ‘Prepacked for direct sale’ something which is a UK competency even as an EU member state.

 

Options proposed include:

  • Encouraging best practice
  • Mandatory ask the staff for information on allergens labelling
  • Mandatory food name and key allergen labelling
  • Mandatory food name and full ingredients listing with additives in bold text

UK to show global leadership in tackling antimicrobial resistance: Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has launched a 20-year vision and five-year plan aimed at tackling growing resistance to antibiotics.  The first five-year strategy focuses onreducing use through immunisation, better infection control and working with doctors, vets, farmers and patients to prevent unnecessary prescription of antibioticsView >

Employment protection for parents with new families: The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has announced its intention to consult on extending redundancy protection for the six months following return to work for new mothers following maternity leave and parents returning from adoption leave or shared parental leave. View >
