Home Office publish guidance on Offensive Weapons Bill: The Home Office has given more details of its plans to require age verification in on line sales of knives and corrosive liquids and ban delivery to residential addresses in its Offensive Weapons Bill 2018. View >

 

Competition and Markets Authority launch investigation of Sainsbury’s Asda merger: The CMA has issued a invitation to comment following the launch of its merger inquiry – Closing date for comment on the opening of the inquiry is the 31st August. The CMA has also set out details of the process it will follow and opportunities to comment. View >

 

Advertising complaint upheld over ‘Summer Holiday’ discount claim: The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint regarding claimed ‘summer holiday’ price discounts by Tui which featured families as the discounts were not available within school holiday periods. View >

Brexit Developments


DEXEU publish ‘Technical notes’ in preparation for a ‘no deal’ Brexit scenario: 
Whilst positioning the possibility as unlikely the Department for exiting the EU has published 25 ‘Technical notes’ on steps that primarily businesses should take to prepare in advance of a ‘no deal’ Brexit. There are cross cutting notes on ‘Trading with the EU, VAT, Classifying goods in the UK tariff, Trade remedies and Workers rights’.  There are also technical notes on specific product areas including for the pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors and in respect of Organic foods. The technical notes have drawn comment from business organisations expressing concern if a ‘No Brexit’ scenario is being contemplated by either UK or EU teams. View >
