Retail, Food, and Hospitality Regulatory Update 2 December

Food & Retail Regulatory round-up w/e 3rd December. Screen text and profanity, paying suppliers, and apricot kernels. 

Important Updates

New advertising rules for on screen text and profanity: The British Codes of Advertising Code of practice rules on use on on-screen text information will change on 1st March 2019. Key changes are on:

  • Sufficiently emphasising particularly significant qualifying information
  • Adopting a stricter approach to ensuring an adequate contrast between the on-screen text and background
  • Taking greater care over the choice of typeface to avoid the use of stretched or elongated text
  • Allowing viewers sufficient time to read on screen text 
  • The ASA has also published guidance on the use of expletives in advertisements. View >

     

    Pay suppliers promptly or don’t get government contracts: The Cabinet Office has stated its intention to introduce a ban on allocation of government contracts to businesses who fail to pay suppliers on time from Autumn 2019. View >

     

    Consultation re health risks from apricot kernels: The European Food Safety Authority has launched a consultation on acute health risks presented by the presence of cyanogenic glycosides in raw apricot kernels – Closes 25th January. View >
