Angela specialises in complex claims engaging with multiple stakeholders in order to support defensibility strategies, securing indemnities and recovery of outlay; working proactively with clients to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Angela regularly advises in matters involving potential reputational damage requiring sensitive resolution.
Angela was lead advisor to TfL in 2016 providing technical oversight of third-party injury claims arising from the Croydon Tram Derailment and rehabilitation support for survivors and bereaved. As one of the UK’s worst rail disasters, the accident attracted widespread press coverage. Angela also provided advice to insurers in relation to reserves, claims handling and rehabilitation schemes arising from the Grenfell Tower Tragedy 2017 to 2019.
Angela has specialist knowledge of transport claims and represents rail operators across many classes of transport including mainline, underground, trams and light rail operators. Angela has defended claims involving passengers/trespassers who have suffered life changing or fatal injuries and handled psychiatric claims from employees injured whilst working on the rail network. She has successfully defended rail operators in claims brought by vulnerable passengers due to mental ill health or under the influence of drink/drugs.
Angela also represents highway authorities in the management of claims involving cyclists and pedestrians arising from alleged failure to maintain the highway and/or negligence in the layout of the highway.
Angela maintains an interest in the opportunities of automation and technical innovation and has contributed to National and Trade Media on the challenges and opportunities posed by e-scooters.
Angela also leads our ACE group (Area of Core Excellence) in AV/EV/Micro mobility providing DWF insight and horizon scanning to help our clients prepare for the changes ahead. Angela has written briefings and given presentations to Industry Groups. She has advised insurers and self-insured corporates on developments in this sector including e-scooters, e-bikes and illegality as well as the issues flowing from the growth of EVs and charging infrastructure. She has been an active participant in the preparation of the regulatory framework getting AV's onto the road in the UK attending debates, Parliamentary briefings and responding to Consultation papers & Calls for Evidence".
