Vento bands: Revised bands of compensation for injury to feelings 

The Presidents of the Employment Tribunals have published the revised bands of compensation for injury to feelings in discrimination cases. The new bands are as follows:

Lower band – £900 to £9,000 for less serious cases

Middle band –£9,000 to £27,000 for cases that do not merit an award in the upper band

Upper band – £27,000 to £45,000 for the most serious cases

Exceptional cases – £45,000 or above

The new bands apply to claims presented on or after 6 April 2020 and will be reviewed annually. 

Please note, these bands take account of the 10% Simmons v Castle uplift. In respect of claims presented in Scotland, the bands remain subject to paragraph 12 of the Presidential Guidance issued on 5 September 2017.
