Tightening of UK controls on online gambling continues: The Gambling Commission has:

  • announced a ban on use of credit cards for online gambling in force 14 April. View >
  • announced that it is to require online operators to participate in the GAMSTOP voluntary self-exclusion scheme in force 31 March. View >
  • Warned six operators as to meeting the rules around charging for in game elements. View >
     

DEFRA to lead multi department/agency approach to tackle waste crime: The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has announced that it is to lead a new taskforce dedicated to tackling serious and organised waste crime, such as dumping hazardous materials on private land and falsely labelling waste so it can be exported abroad to unsuspecting countries. The Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC) will for the first time bring together law enforcement agencies, environmental regulators, HMRC and the National Crime Agency to actively target waste crime.
