EU sets the tone for future trade deal negotiations: EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and EU Chief Brexit negotiator Michele Barnier have delivered speeches giving a clear steer on the EU negotiating mandate to be presented to the EU Council and Parliament in a few weeks time. They make clear that there will need to be prioritisation on what can be agreed during the next eleven months but are positive on developing an economic partnership based on a level playing field with zero quotas, zero tariffs and zero ‘dumping’.
