Important Updates

£600K allocated for Local Authority product safety testing: The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has allocated £600k for Local Authority safety testing of non-food consumer products in 2019-20 and published sampling protocols for use by Local Authorities. View >  OPSS has also published the materials used for consumer product safety campaigns that it has undertaken. Units of alcohol messaging on packaging: The Portman group is encouraging alcohol brands to include the Chief Medical Officer's recommended maximum consumption limit of 14 units per week on consumer packaging. The Portman group has also again highlighted the growth in low and no alcohol brands. View > View >

SACN report confirms the need to reduce consumption of saturated fat: A report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition to Public Health England has confirmed that the available science confirms the need to reduce levels of saturated fat in the diet due to its impact on cholesterol and incidence of cardiovascular conditions. SACN concluded that there is no need to change current advice that saturated fat should not exceed around 10% of food energy. View >
